Relationship counseling has helped so many couples resolve their issues and save their relationships.  A lot of couples don’t like this type of counseling because they feel it’s either an admission of wrong doing or they don’t like to discuss their issues with a stranger.  But it truly is a great way to receive an objective opinion from an outside source that isn’t personally involved in your relationship.  They can help point out underlying issues you may not have even considered.

Your partner will view the idea much more favorably if you ask them to attend counseling with you because you have some issues you need to work on.  Perhaps you want to learn how to be a better partner or spouse and contribute more to the relationship.  Don’t ever approach it like they are the ones that need counseling, even if you believe they are the majority of the problem.  Once you are in counseling together, your counselor will help you both learn tips and techniques that will improve your relationship.

Never be afraid to suggest relationship counseling no matter how old the relationship is.  It’s never too late to learn better ways to communicate or solve problems.  Just because you are seeking an outside source is not showing a sign of weakness.  It’s actually the other way around.  It shows that you are willing to change, learn, open up to new ideas and grow in order to improve your relationship.  Wouldn’t you rather learn these things now instead of later?  Face these obstacles now and it will just make your relationship much stronger in the long run.

If your partner misinterprets the reasons you want relationship counseling and refuses to go, go on your own.  While this type of counseling does work best when both of you attend, you can go and find out how you can improve yourself.  If your partner sees that you are willing to go on your own and you feel that it is really helping you, they may be more willing to give it a try.
